Folding Hangers

Mediums: Laser-etched curly maple, 3/16” steel rod

Overview: This project is based off an early 20th century design, and was made for someone whose job had them traveling often. I made a prototype using cardboard to figure out what the cut angles and clearances are for the half lap joint to ensure that the hangar could open and close all the way. The finished pieces are made with curly maple and a bent steel rod that is threaded to hold the joint together and and act as an axle for rotation.
